Senior .NET developer

Detailed job description.

Level: Senior

Opening date: November 2018

The role

We are looking for a talented Senior .NET Web Developer to help us deal with an expanding workload as Aqueduct continues to acquire clients. We’ve recently launched the sites for Tottenham Hotspur, and Suzuki, and there is no letting up: late this year we will also launch a brand new site for Scope.org.

We are a .NET house at heart and use Sitecore and Umbraco as a base to build most of our solutions with the door always open to other options – we view no tool or process as set in stone. We keep up to date on the latest technology and processes and if any member of our team believes something can be done better, we listen.

We try to keep our delivery teams small, focused and consciously back-end focused with the bulk of coding performed in OO C#, aided by the use of .NET centric CMS systems. This is all done by engineers who are constantly challenged to stay up to date with the latest tools and techniques to solve complex technical problems. For instance, we use SASS/LESS for CSS pre-processing, Git for version control and we use Team City/Octopus for our CI/CD pipelines. You will be working to an Agile, test-first methodology, using SCRUM and Kanban, from day one.

We like to be surprised and delighted and are looking for someone who loves everything about digital. As a small team we want someone who is passionate, with bags of ability and experience, and who likes to take responsibility and lead projects.

Responsibilities

We expect the successful applicant to be capable of:

  • Proficient developer in all things .NET, not just CMS
  • Experienced and certified in .NET CMS, particularly Umbraco and Sitecore.
  • Active on self development
  • Able to work in a team or solo on a project
  • Know and follow all code standards and patterns set by the team
  • Knowledge and practice of TDD
  • Knowledge and practice of continuous integration tools (TeamCity, Octopus deploy)
  • Knowledge and practice of agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban)
  • Able to propose and argue opinion on technology or code
  • Able to conduct a code review
  • Able to help interview potential tech candidates
  • Able to drive a show and tell
  • Able to participate in a client meeting and represent the Aqueduct tech team
  • Able to explain complex technical matters to PMs, AMs and clients alike in plain English

We also work with and around our clients, often literally as they come in to the office to work with us on several of their projects. You should be comfortable liaising and exchanging ideas with these people and have had experience in this type of environment.

Experience and skills

We are looking for the successful applicant to demonstrate:

  • You will be a passionate backend-focused .NET Web Developer, with experience building and maintain websites and apps in C# using an MVC framework and with an in-depth experience of building websites with .NET CMS like Umbraco and Sitecore.
  • You will preferably have worked in an Agile, team environment, with experience in writing code in a TDD fashion and performing and receiving code reviews.
  • You will have experience of high traffic, load balanced websites preferably on cloud based infrastructure like AWS and Azure. Experience with Azure Webapps is an advantage particularly with Umbraco and Sitecore.
  • You will have at least 4 years experience in a commercial environment ideally including some agency experience.
